The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel is now open in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem, Israel's capital city.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is in Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entrance, Nahal Ein Kerem, is just half a kilometer away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.

The opening ceremony of the tunnel that is 2.1 kilometers long, was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion and Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) as well as a plethora of cyclists.

Jerusalem's rich past was the main reason for it to be an extremely popular tourist attraction in the past. Elkin declared that, in the present, apart from its historical treasures it is also home to modern-day travelers. "The inauguration [of] this tunnel project is yet another step in the development of Jerusalem as an ideal tourist destination for all types of tourists in Israel and around the globe."

Elkin is the project's director. project in conjunction with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests millions of dollars in Jerusalem's tourism development and the development of innovative tourist attractions and ventures that connect the glorious past of Jerusalem to its future.
